The Serbian Krajisnik is sentenced to 27 years

28/9/2006

The Yugoslav court in LaHay sentenced the Serbian Momcilo Krajisnik today 28 September 2006 to 27 years in prison after being convicted of committing crimes against humanity (crimes of persecution, extermination and murder, and crimes of displacement and ethnic cleansing against the non-Serbs people of Bosnia and Herzegovina). In addition, he is accused with being a member of a criminal organization

The sentence against him is lenient because of the lack of evidences enhancing the charge of genocide. This requires evidence on the deliberate extermination of a certain population.

Krajisnik has been given the name "Mr. No" because of his stubborn stance during the peace negotiations with Radovan Karadzic. He is also deemed to be responsible for ethnic cleansing crimes which took place in Bosnia and Herzegovina in 1991 and 1992.

During the war in Bosnia, Krajisnik was the faithful man to Radovan Karadzic. They joined a group of Serbian politicians and military staff, including Slobodan Milosevic and formed their criminal organization

When Momcilo Krajisnik learnt that the period he already spent in detention will be deducted from his imprisonment period, he nodded his head.
