Senegal tries Africa's Pinochet "Hussian Hebri"
300 human rights organizations members of the coalition against impunity, at last, after many years, succeeded in bringing Africa's Pinochet Chad's former President "Hussian Hebri". The Senegalese President stated that he will ask the parliament to amend the Senegal's constitution, in order to abolish the legal obstacles that may hinder Hebri's trial in Dakar. As he was in power-from 1982 through 1990-, Hebri has been responsible for the death of about 40,000 political detainees and the torture of about 200,000. For 16 years, there have been numerous actions to bring Hebri to court. Boost by the African Union, these actions now have succeeded to bring Hebri to court for the crimes he perpetrated. |
