Creation of Damascus center for theoretical And legal studies

The inauguration of the Damascus center for theoretical and legal studies was announced on the thirtieth of October 2005. The center is directed by the known activist Aktham Naissa, holder of several international rewards for his contributions in the human rights field, last one of them being the Martin Enals reward for the year 2005. The consultative board of the center is formed by 11 of the most qualified and experienced Syrian and Arab cadres.

The center is concerned in publishing the legal and theoretical studies and releases related to the culture of human rights, and the democratic paradox in the Arab world in general and in Syria in particular complying with all the international pacts and conventions related to the human rights issue and the democratic culture and notion.

In accordance with this purpose, the center supports the studies brought out by Syrian researchers and thinkers and others related to human rights or democratic issues, and publishes it in manuals and books in addition of the publication of a quarterly newspaper specialized in theoretical issues related to democracy and human rights and a monthly newspaper specialized in informative issues and pragmatic studies.

The center also embraces the educational and scientific programs which includes performing theoretical and practical researches, holding conferences, congresses and work shops about democracy and human rights, in addition of offering its services to researchers in the human rights field and democracy.
