Kuwait : The parliament gives the women the right to vote and be nominated

The Kuwaiti Parliament agreed on Tuesday 19th April 2005 in a first reading on a law project gives women the right to vote in the coming elections in October 2005 which is considered a first step towards obtaining the Kuwaiti women to their civil rights.
The project was adopted by 26 parliamentarians and opposed by 20.
The Kuwaiti parliament consists of 50 members and the governmental 15 members are allowed to vote.
Among those who voted for the law project 13 minister attended the session and the liberal and Shiite.
On the other hand the confronting were the Islamists and tribunals who are against giving women their political rights.
Though the Kuwaiti constitution confirms the non-discrimination on gender basis but the election law allows men only to vote and be nominated.
