Cairo : Workers' Strike Succeeded
Tura Al Esment Workers Won
16th of December 2004
The three days strike organized by 2000 workers in The Tura El Esment Company, Helwan gained its fruits at last.
The strike began as a result of the government's decision to sell 65.92% of The Suez Cement company stocks, that own 66.6%of the Tura El Esment Company, to a French Cement company.
The strike was a model of " Perfect Organized Strike", as workers signed a petition of demands, elected one representative and divided themselves into three groups;
First group to operate all machines, second to supply food and water, and the third to take responsibility of the strike.
This "Workers' movement" actually forced the prime minister and the ministers of Investment and Trade to accept their demands, and to consider their petition as a certified agreement with all investors.
The CEO of the Company declared in his statement last Sunday that workers' salaries and Promotions will be reconsidered starting January2005 instead of February2005. as starting from this year, all workers will get paid a 10% salary profit, they will get extra incentive-bonus with the December2004 salary, and when the company stocks are sold next February, all will get an extra bonus of three months' salaries.
