    Freedom of expression is missing despite a decision banning imprisonment for press crimes

    Jordan

    Refugees and detainees
     Human rights organizations welcomed two decisions Jordan took. Human rights watch also welcomed the decision in two separate statements the first was giving officially Iraqi children the permission to attend public schools irregardless of their residential status despite the fact that they are not recognized as refugees. the second statement also welcomed the decision the Jordanian intelligence services took in allowing a number of human rights organizations to visit the intelligence services' detention centre during the second half of August. Human rights also seek to meet with officials from the intelligence services and military attorneys in the state security court to discuss significant cases and also talk to the accused.

    Freedom of information exchange
     Bahraini authorities slapped a ban of 12 sites on the web to deny citizens form their right to express their opinions which they cannot express in newspapers due to laws setting constraints on press freedoms. The society of Bahraini youth for human rights reported that step.

    Freedom of expression
    Six Arab, international, and regional human rights organizations condemned the assaults that took place during the trial of Mr.Omar Mesteery , head of the Tunisian society for human rights and editor of "kalimatunisie.com".

    A lawyer- whose license was revoked by the Tunisian lawyer's syndicate after convicted many times of fraud and also who has close connections with the ruling party) physically assaulted Dr. Khalil el-Zawya an executive member of the Tunisian society for human rights and Mr.Abd-Raouf Ayadey a former member in the nation lawyers body. This lawyer also assaulted verbally Mr.Abd-razik Kilanee the head of the Tunisian lawyers and Mrs.Nazeeha Regiba the managing editor in " kalimatunisie.com" and also on her husband Mr.Mukhtar el-Jelaly, he also attempted to assault Mr.Omar Mesteery. the assaults took place inside the court's hall under the protection of many security service members including police officers in official uniform..

    Saudi Arabia

    Seven members of one family assaulted their four Indonesian living-in housemaids for practicing" Black magic" on their teenager son, two housemaids lost their lives and two others sustained serious injuries. Human rights watch reported the assault and described it as part of a state of evading punishment encouraged by the government by not taking any measures against these assaults which plague about 2 million women working as housemaids in Saudi Arabia and receive low wages for working long hours, forced to stay in their place of work and face verbal, physical and sexual assaults. Despite the fact that those women are victimized by abuse yet they face charges of theft, adultery in rape assaults and practicing magic.

    Freedom of movement
    The Syrian opposition figure Ryad seif didn't find another means to draw attention to his critical medical conditions except by urging all concerned with human rights in Syria and the world to help him obtain his natural and legitimate right to receive appropriate medical care abroad to save his life and his right to life which is stipulated by international treaties on human rights and all the divine and non-divine religion after the Syrian authority denied him his right to travel to receive medical care

    Arrest
     Syrian intelligence arrested Maroof Mulla the leading member in the Kurdish party Yekty on the Syrian Lebanese borders .there was no information about the reason behind his detention or location of the detention premise.

    Food strike
     The Syrian opposition figure, activist and lawyer threaten to launch a food and water strike to death in a protest against the psychological terrors deployed by the Syrian security services. The Syrian observatory for human rights strongly condemns the repeated assaults on Mr.Anwar el Benni in Edra prison and warns the prison security chief of any attempt to cause physical or psychological harm on his life.

    Iraq

    Journalists and media workers
    A number of journalists in Basra received threats of murder and persecution from a number of unknown groups while the local authorities and the security services admitted their failure to identify the perpetrators. The observatory of press freedoms urge the government to step-in to protect the rest of journalists in Basra and also send an investigation committee to find out the identity of those groups who are persecuting the journalist and provide protection for journalists and media organizations in the city.
    American forces break into the house of the injured journalist "Satar Husseiny" by using sound bombs .Mr.Husseiny was injured in an assassination attempt seven months ago.

    Egypt

    Torture and violations committed by Egyptian police
     Three human rights organizations asked the general attorney in Mansoura to open an investigation into the death of Muhammed Mamdoun 11 years old at the hands of security services after beating and torturing him in Mansoura central police station, they also asked to launch an investigation into the circumstances of the boy's burial which was conducted in a secret and coercive manner on 14/8/2007 at the hands of the security services without the permission of the boy's family nor their presence. They also asked to exhume the boy's body and re-examine it to find out the real causes of death. The human rights organizations called for protecting the boy's family especially his brother who is detained in the central police station on another separate account. They also asked not to accept any compromise offered by the boy's family because it will be a result of coercion. The public attorney transferred the case to the general deputy to imitate an investigation starting today.

    The Egyptian organization for human rights called for an investigation into the death of a lawyer inside a police station and asked the minister of interiors not to turn a blind eye at torture crimes taking place in the Egyptian prisons and police stations and take all the necessary means to prosecute the perpetrators among the security services and also reconsider the judicial punishment for committing crimes of tortures and abolish legislations which contributed in a way or other to create fertile environment for widespread torture crimes which became a phenomenon or a methodical tool in the hand of the security services.

    Fair Trail
     The Egyptian organization for human rights condemned prosecuting the accused in the Azhar explosions before the exceptional legislation which was formed according to the emergency law no 162/ 1985 as a denial for those individuals' right to stand trail before a regular judge and denying them their right to appeal verdicts before a higher court and calls for retrying the accused before regular judge and ensure their full legal rights in challenging the verdict before a higher court and also to remove the state of emergency applied since 1981 which created an environment for violating human rights and freedoms guaranteed by the constitution and international treaties on human rights especially the right to fair trail .

    Palestine

    Palestinian stranded across borders in a devastating situation in Areesh airport
    30 individual are still stranded in Areesh airport for the 65th day amid devastating psychological and medical conditions among them people who are suffering from critical medical conditions and in a disparate need for appropriate medical care.

    The Dameer organization for human rights urged in a statement the Egyptian president to step-in to end the suffering of those people and enable them to return back to Gaza strip

    Occupation black-out
     Tens of thousands of civilians in Gaza strip suffered from an electricity black-out causing major problems in delivering water to their houses and their ability to reach their houses especially in the city of Gaza which is full of multi-storied buildings. Black-outs make it impossible for the elderly and patients to reach their houses which come as part of collective punishment inflicted upon the civilians by the occupation forces which have full control on the border crossings which are closed since September 2000.

    Freedom of expression
    The Moroccan society for human rights and a number of unions and human rights organizations decided to take a number of measures to protect the freedom of expression and press in Morocco against the recent violations .they also decided to organize a meeting with the head of the advisory council for human rights and a number of government officials to express their worries and condemnations against those violations.

    HRINFO issued three statements this week; the first was regarding the practices of police forces in Egypt which led to denying Dr.Essam Eryan from travel and arresting him among sixteen other individuals. The state deputy security ordered their imprisonment for 15 days. HRINFO repeatedly urged lawyers not to attend before military courts for lacking any standards of fair trail and also urged the accused before the deputy of state security to refuse to cooperate unless standing before a judge due to the impartiality of the deputy of state security which mainly delivers an incessant decisions of arrest pending trial irregardless of the nature of the accusations which are usually fabricated.

     The second talked about the questioning of members of Middle East Christians Association. HRINFO in its statement urged the general attorney to appoint a judge to conduct the rest of the questioning due to the violations committed by the deputy of state security against the accused which was impartial and lacking in transparency. HRINFO decided to continue attending the investigation without ruling out the possibility of withdrawal and asking the other lawyers to follow suit in order not to render their participation a legitimate façade of justice which is a concept quite unfamiliar to the officials of the deputy of state security.

    The third statement talks about the harsh decision delivered by Ras Kheima criminal court in the U.A.E to imprison the head administrator of Majan.net for one year and 50,000 Dirham dime and 20,000 Diirham as a temporary compensation for government officials in addition to shutting-down the web-site which threatens the freedom of expression in the Emirates and jeopardizes the pioneer role it played in spreading the usage of the Internet. HRINFO stands hand in hand with those brave writers and journalists (editors) and believes that it behooves the government of the U.A.E to take pride in Majan.net instead of imprisoning those journalists for exercising their right to freedom of expression. The statement also said that the verdict was a harsh blow dealt to the freedom of expression and the freedom to use the internet in a country that-was a pioneer in spreading the usage of the internet.
