Jordan

Opinion and Expression
The authorities in Jordan celebrates world press day by jailing the former parliament member Dr. Ahmed El Aidi 15 days under investigation. El Aidi judged by the Jordanian Interior Minister in a defamation case because he issued a statement on the internet opposes the state government and he was prosecuted in three crimes joined in the titles of defaming the reputation of the government, violating internet communication laws. The statement published in his owned website "the Jordanian National Movement", he discussed the political conditions and the corruption of the administrative and governmental apparatuses in Jordan.

The Jordanian censorship prohibited printing Al-Magd Weekly Newspaper's late issue under the pretence of publishing a report could tension the relations between Jordan and the Palestinian government.

Report
Amman Center for Human Rights Studies publishes its second report on press liberties in the Arab countries and it provided statistical indexes on press liberties in the Arab world, Arab countries reports and an appendix on the plan submitted to form press liberties' report.

    Bahrain

    Opinion and Expression
    During the seminar held by Bahrain Youth Organization under the title "journalist' prosecution in light of the democratic transitions", the attendants state the fact that press and journalists are in danger returning this to Publication Law or some important officials in society. It announced during the seminar the support of the organization to journalists who are still under prosecution or the ones prosecuted before. Moreover, it will stand beside the journalists and give them support to express the grievances of Bahraini people.

    Labor Day
    In the anniversary of Labor Day, Bahrain Center for Human Rights issues a report under the title "Bahrain … heaven of wealthy people and traders ". While on the contrary, the Bahraini workers suffer from poverty and discrimination. The report tackles by statistics and facts the ill conditions of workers in Bahrain and especially women and immigrants.

    Arrests
    More arrest cases to the religious youth, the Tunisian Alliance for Human Rights calls upon the authorities to stop random arrests and respect the law's terms including arrest circumstances, notifying youth's kindred and providing defense rights.

    The International Organization for Supporting Political Prisoners calls for releasing all political prisoners especially Waleed El Ayouny whose mother started an open hunger strike and he lost his mental abilities.

    Human Rights Watch calls upon the Sudanese government to extradite a minister and an official leader both did crimes against humanity in Darfur, in which the International Criminal Court issued arrest verdicts against the two criminals and obliged the government in Khartoum to extradite them for a prosecution in Lahay.

    Exchanging information
    The Syrian authority, which categorized as the most significant enemy world wide, blocked Al-Nedaa website related to Damascus Declaration for National Democratic alternation, after a few moths from release. Accordingly, it stands in the row with the hundreds of Syrian and non-Syrian websites blocked by the Syrian authority.

    Arrest and Prosecutions
    The International Committee for Supporting Michel Kilo issued a report on the details of the prosecution under the title "report identifies Michel Kilo's prosecution" and the reasons and results of arresting the signatories on Damascus's declaration.

    Iraq

    Opinion and Expression
    An Iraqi court issued a verdict on Al-Beaa Al-Gedida (the new environment) Newspaper and fined its editor -in-chef with 250 Iraqi Million Dinar, under the pretence that the newspaper blasphemed the head of the Iraqi concordance front. Moreover, it forced the newspaper to publish a former apology for three days and refute the published news.

    Journalists and Media Workers
    Murdering a foreign reporter and six US soldiers by an explosive bomb in Diali Governorate, North East Baghdad. Twenty-two foreign journalists murdered in Iraq since US occupation according to the statistics done by Press Freedoms Observatory. On this context, the observatory issued its annual report on the violations against journalists in Iraq, which reached to 123 cases during the period (3/5/2006) to (3/5/2007). On the other hand, the observatory issued in statement news about armed men fired the whole building of (Radio Degla) Broadcast in less than two days after the previous attack on the building.

    Civil Society Network against Security Disorder and Al-Mizan Center condemn murdering a citizen and injuring six others including children and teachers, after a demonstration done by some ancestral groups refused holding a sport festival organized by Goth UN Recruiting Refugees.

    The Palestinian Association for Human Rights (Rasid) condemn murdering two Palestinians by four armed men, and states that these inhuman acts harm the civilians living in Ein Al-holwa Camp who suffered for a long time from these acts violating citizens' personal safety.

    On 10 May, six human rights organizations in London held a seminar to discuss the last progress in the case of the political activists who started arranging a peaceful sit-in in Al-Shuhadaa (Martyrs) Square in the capital Tarablus on (Saturday 17 February), however the Libyan government arrested them all before starting the demonstration. The six organizations also discussed the file of political prisoners and human rights' conditions in general.

    Torture
    In consequence to the series of police's violations and torture crimes against citizens, a new torture act practiced by adjutant of Ismailia police station investigation, Captain Ahmed Hassan and his colleagues.

    In an attempt done by human rights organizations to prosecute torturers in police officers, the human rights coalition formed by some Egyptian human rights organizations continued examining the prosecution of the state security officer, Captain/ Ashraf Mostafa Hussien Safwat accused of torturing a citizen until death called Mohamed Abdel Qader El Sayed. Some coalition members attended the court session held in Cairo Criminal Court in New Cairo on (5/5/2007) and it ended by postponing to the session (3/9/2007) pending the response of the president. Moreover, the Legal Assistance Organization for Human Rights adopted the case since the Year 2003 called upon the President to present compensations to the victim's children.

    On this domain, 27 human rights organizations issued a statement angrily condemning the statement issued by the Foreign Minister office under the title "the Foreign Ministry refused the letter presented by immigrant workers committee to re- open the file of Sudanese refugees' massacre event in Mustafa Mahmoud Square, Mohandeseen". Foreign Ministry added that the committee working on examining the International Convention for Immigrant Workers Rights' applied work is not responsible for the victims, while it belongs to the convention of refugees. Obviously, it is an attempt to give an excuse to manipulate in opening the file again by challenging the authority of immigrant workers committee.

    Opinion and Expression
    Four seperate statements issued the verdict of six months imprisonment against Al-Jazeera reporter Howaida Taha. The four organizations issued the news are Human Rights Watch Organization, the Egyptian Organization for Human Rights, the Arabic Network for Human Rights Information and Reporters Without Boarders, which has issued another statement about releasing two Egyptian bloggers.

    Belief
    The Egyptian Initiative for Personal Rights feels disappointed about the verdict issued by the Administrative Judiciary Court. The court refused citizens' right to return to their origin religion, which is Christianity because of it changed to Islam in cognition. EIPR describes the verdict is a contradiction to the situation of the state council regarding legal and constitutional protection and citizens' right to belief and doctrine.

    Hood Organization issues a statement condemning Yemeni authorities' refusal to register Journalists without Restrictions Organization's newspaper "Newsletter without Restrictions". However, the organization presented before 8 months the registration papers. Hood's statement exclaimed, the government never had the authority to decide the citizens' principal posts, which are their private decisions.
